How to Prepare for a tsunami
To prepare for a Tsunami it is good to know your surroundings if you live at or are visiting a coastal area. Keep a radio nearby at all times and listen for sirens and/or warnings. A Tsunami survival kit can also be very handy when you are stuck in the middle of a deadly Tsunami. CDEMA (Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency) recommends you include: water, food, torches, batteries, cash, blankets, a First Aid Kit, a charged phone and personal hygiene items.
how to respond to a tsunami
If you are at or near the coast and the ground starts rumbling it is likely you will soon be hit by a Tsunami. IMMEDIATELY grab your pets and get to high ground or the top floors of a tall building. If your neighbors are elderly or need help evacuating, it's okay to help them. If you don't they probably won't be one of the survivors. Your belongings are NOT a priority and only you, your pets, your family, and your Tsunami Survival Kit should accompany you. DO NOT rely on official warnings to tell you to evacuate. Get out IMMEDIATELY!
How to recover from a tsunami
Once the waves have COMPLETELY stopped, it is okay to return home but may be safer to wait for a while before inspecting the wreckage. When you have returned home or where home used to be, DO NOT start cleaning up until you are wearing protective gear or clothing.
